POSITION SUMMARY
Provides active supervision for children in a group setting at an after-school program. Offers a high-quality experience for children and parents relevant to the YMCA’s core values: Honesty, respect, responsibility, and care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Providing active supervision for children in indoor and outdoor group settings
- Participating in planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values
- Adhering to program safety and cleanliness standards
- Attending all staff meetings and trainings
- Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
- Maintaining positive relationships with youth, parents, staff, and school personnel
- Helping with student’s homework during A+ hours
- Understanding and agreeing with the YMCA philosophy, goals, and objectives
- Ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of all YMCA youth
- Relating to the children with respect and understanding
- Demonstrating knowledge of child development and adjusting approaches based on individual or group needs
- Promoting positive development in youth
- Maintaining a team spirit
- Instructing children in a variety of activities with enthusiasm and creativity
- Attending work and work-related events promptly.
- Remaining open-minded towards criticism, suggestion, and direction from other staff
- Preparing and submitting lesson plans on time as requested by the director
- Researching and developing new and creative activities to enhance the program
- Maintaining responsibility for the facility, equipment, and supplies of the A+ site
- Completing other duties as assigned
- Updating youth and families about YMCA events
