Description

M?lama Maui Nui will be partnering with the Hawai?I Government Employees Association (HGEA) for the 7th annual Kwong Fook Tong Cemetery Cleanup on Saturday, April 1st, 2017. The cemetery cleanup is conducted at the time of year called Ching Ming (15 days after the spring equinox) or Paisan. It is a traditional time of year for spring cleaning or the "sweeping of the graves." The work is done to clear the overgrown vegetation around the graves and to honor ancestors buried there.

The cleanup will take place from 8 am to noon and lunch will be provided for volunteers. M?lama Maui Nui and HGEA will have some garden tools and supplies for use. If you have a heavy duty weedeater, please do bring it with you.  Fuel and string will be provided as needed. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection such as hats and sunglasses, and long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect from scrapes and insect bites. Please bring a reusable bottle for water and lemonade (provided).
