If you know of an outstanding volunteer who strives every day to make Maui County a better place, your chance to shine the spotlight on them is here! HandsOn Maui is excited to once again open nominations for our annual Volunteer Hero Celebration of Service.
This special time of year honors the hardworking individuals dedicating their valuable time to nonprofit organizations across Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi. Reasons for nominating can be unique to each organization, from dedication to a cause to the impact of this person on your nonprofit's mission.
Who Can Nominate?
If you are a nonprofit volunteer manager or part of a government volunteer program in Maui County, you can nominate a standout volunteer who has made a significant impression on your organization. The process is simple, but nominations are limited, so please do not delay.
Nomination Period: February 5, 2025 - March 5, 2025
Please note that the first 25 nominations will be accepted. You must visit www.handsonmaui.com/nominate to complete the form.
Only one nominee per organization! Please include a high quality photo and be sure to know your nominee's t shirt size.
What Makes a Volunteer Hero?
A Volunteer Hero is someone who makes a lasting impact, they go above and beyond regular volunteering expectations, and they inspire others to do the same. According to Wendy Stebbins, Volunteer Center Coordinator, "Celebrating these exceptional volunteers every April is the culmination of much hard work. The whole experience of volunteering is rewarding, but it's nice to shine a spotlight and present a physical reminder."
How Are Volunteer Heroes Honored?
During National Volunteer Week from April 20-27, 2025, the Volunteer Heroes will take center stage:
- Featured across HandsOn Maui's social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram).
- Highlighted in the HandsOn Maui e-newsletter and blog.
- Honored at an in-person event on April 22 from 10am to 11:30am at the Mayor's Conference Lounge, complete with a Certificate of Recognition from the County of Maui and a distinctive Volunteer Hero T-shirt.
This is our way of saying MAHALO to the individuals of Maui County who display selflessness and compassion every day.
Why Nominate?
Recognizing volunteers uplifts the people being honored and continues to inspire others in the community. It is a chance to celebrate the power of giving back and to show volunteers that their contributions matter.
