Molokai and Lanai, the two smaller islands in Maui County, hold rich histories and unique cultural heritages.

  • Molokai (Moloka'i) is known as "The Friendly Isle." It is steeped in Hawaiian tradition with a close-knit community deeply connected to the land and sea.

  • Lanai (Lana'i), often called "The Pineapple Island," was once dominated by pineapple plantations, and has evolved into a serene getaway while retaining its small-town charm.

These islands offer a glimpse into Hawaii's past, preserving a way of life that is increasingly rare in our modern world.

Why Molokai and Lanai Need Our Support

Both Molokai and Lanai face significant challenges. Due to their smaller populations and remote locations, they often lack the resources and infrastructure readily available on larger islands like Maui and Oahu. This makes them underserved communities where every donation and volunteer effort can have a profound impact.

Economic Challenges: Molokai and Lanai have limited economic opportunities, relying heavily on tourism, agriculture, and small businesses. This economic fragility makes it difficult for residents to access essential services and opportunities for growth.

Limited Resources: The islands' remoteness means that resources such as healthcare, education, and social services are less accessible. Nonprofits play a crucial role in filling these gaps, providing vital support to the communities.

Cultural Preservation: Both islands are rich in cultural heritage that must be preserved and celebrated. Nonprofits working on Molokai and Lanai help maintain cultural practices, support local artisans, and educate younger generations about their heritage.
