Who We Are

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers form community teams to assist people in their community following a disaster, when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

CERT volunteers also support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects.

What We Do

CERT is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety and doing the greatest good for the greatest number in a disaster situation.

CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens will be initially on their own and their actions can make a difference.

Sponsored by Maui Emergency Management Agency and taught by Maui Fire Department instructors, CERT Basic Training is a 24-hour course taught over several days, consisting of classroom instruction and field exercises.

CERT training is free to Maui County residents, and is open to people of all abilities, age 18 and older, no previous experience needed. Ages 14-17 may attend with a parent or legal guardian.
