Malama Hamakua Maui

Mālama Hāmākua Maui is a local nonprofit caring for the Hāmākualoa Kūʻaiwi through restoration, stewardship, and community engagement. We bring people together to mālama ʻāina, honor place, and ensure this open space remains healthy, accessible, and respected for generations to come.

Mālama Hāmākua Maui is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to caring for and restoring the Hāmākualoa Kūʻaiwi. Our work centers on preserving the land and protecting cultural sites that have been impacted by decades of agricultural use and illegal dumping, including areas of deep cultural significance that require ongoing care and respect. We are actively restoring native plant ecosystems by addressing invasive species and reintroducing native forests that once defined this landscape. Guided by community input and County commitments, we are also working toward the creation of a community organic garden space—helping to fulfill the original vision established for Hāmākua as a place of restoration, learning, and shared stewardship.
