Feed My Sheep staff will continue to need assistance sorting fresh produce and now we will also have canned goods to pack for our distributions. Maui Rescue Mission is a mobile resource center for those in our community who are struggling with homelessness.

We provide free laundry service, private hot showers, hygiene and first aid items, clothing, connections to other resources. Onsite at out reach tasks include, but are not limited to:

1) Guest check-in (Manning our check-in table. Signing guests in, letting them know when it's there turn and handing out towels and hygiene items as needed.)

2) Laundry room team (Keeping up with the washing, drying and folding of guests laundry as wells as tidying up the laundry room at the end of outreach.)

Join us on MLK Day- Monday January 19th, 2026 for a day of malama 'āina at the Waihe'e Valley Ridge Trail. We will be removing invasive plants, replacing them with native Hawaiian plants, and collecting seeds for propagation if available. 

Place: Meet at the main parking lot below the Waiheʻe Ridge Trail head, right outside of Camp Maluhia.

What to bring: Long-sleeve shirt, long pants, closed-toe shoes with good tread, at least 2 liters of water, snacks, sun protection, and a backpack. MKWP will provide gloves and tools.

What to expect: We will hike a little over a mile up the trail to the restoration site. We will be back at the trailhead at 12:00 pm.

*Please make sure your packs, clothing, shoes and gear are cleaned of all mud, dirt, seeds, etc.*

(This is to ensure that we don’t bring invasive/ non-native species)

As a Distribution of Emergency Supplies (DES) volunteer, you'll be stationed at a location in the community (usually a Red Cross office, warehouse, or local school). Members from the public that need assistance will be directed to that location where you'll be able to provide supplies. The supplies may include things like: clean-up kits, tents/tarps, food, water, etc.

You will need to be physically able to work in the weather, and lift 20-50lbs multiple times during your shift. Shifts can range between 4-12hrs depending on how much support we have. 

When housing is disrupted in communities after a disaster, it can be difficult for some people to find new long-term housing. The Shelter Resident Transition Team helps shelter residents create personalized plans to overcome roadblocks and transition to new housing. They play a critical role in reducing disaster-caused displacement and aiding in long-term recovery for individuals. 

If you want to alleviate human suffering by shortening the time of disaster caused displacement, this is the perfect role for you!

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officers are the behind-the-scenes heroes who coordinate local emergency responses in real time. From the comfort of your home, you’ll ensure that people affected by disasters receive the care and support they need by dispatching volunteers to the scene.

If you are comfortable talking on the phone with new people, learning new computer applications, and can keep folks organized this is the perfect role for you! 

In this role, you'll receive calls from first-responders that are on scene at small-scale local disasters, like home fires. You'll collect the information about the event, how many people/pets need assistance and how bad the damage is. Then, you'll call the Disaster Action Team members that are on-call and respond in-person to provide assistance.

As a logistics Team Member you'll work before, during, or after a disaster to ensure that we have the supplies we need, in the places we need them. There are several options:

Transportation Volunteer- When disaster responders from across the country respond to a disaster, they need access to reliable transportation to meet the needs of the community effectively. Transportation Service Associates serve as a part of the logistics team by coordinating the maintenance, inventory control and servicing of vehicles used during a response.

Fulfillment Volunteer- When disaster responders from across the country respond to a disaster, they need access to reliable transportation to meet the needs of the community effectively. Transportation Service Associates serve as a part of the logistics team by coordinating the maintenance, inventory control and servicing of vehicles used during a response.

Sourcing volunteer- The Sourcing Service Associate is an operational position and is assigned temporarily to support Disaster Cycle Services Logistics on a disaster relief operation (DRO). This position receives, obtains, and delivers materials and services requested from DRO teams. This position supports the mission of the American Red Cross by deploying mission critical supplies and materials requested from other DRO functional groups and ensuring financial alignment with the Service Delivery Plan.

This position is great for those that enjoy educating others and public speaking. Former teachers, coaches, education students, pastors, group leaders, etc. In your role, you will learn our Community Education Presentations for the programs below, and teach members of the public how to prepare.

Presentations are scheduled in the community based on their needs, but are scheduled in advance. They generally take 1-2hrs, and you'll have a team member with you so you're not alone. 

When a large-scale disaster impacts a community, multiple agencies and resources come together to provide response and recovery support. As a Community Engagement & Partnerships (CEP) Service Associate you’ll connect with local partners to build capacity, coordinate activities, and ensure that all disaster-affected communities have access to Red Cross services.

Your role involves implementing the CEP plan, engaging with organizations, and supporting multi-agency collaborative efforts to promote regional engagement and inclusive partnerships.

This position is great for those that are well known in the community they'll be supporting. Those that network, lead groups, do public speaking, etc. are great candidates for this high-need role. 

Every day, seven people die in home fires, most often in homes without working smoke alarms. That’s why the American Red Cross launched our Home Fire Campaign in 2014 to save lives.

Through our home visits, we’ve installed more than 2.2 million free smoke alarms and prepared more than 2.5 million people for home fires.

You can join the American Red Cross today as a volunteer installing fire alarms in the homes of those that need them most in our communities across the island.

This opportunity is great for teams of 2-4 people. Someone will be the documenter, the safety educator, the installer and the assistant. You'll install smoke alarms in the home, help the renter or owner to draw up an evacuation plan, practice a 2-minute escape drill and perform a safety check to ensure there are no obvious fire hazards in the home.

As a shelter volunteer, you'll help provide clients with comfort and safety after disasters by supporting the day-to-day activities within a shelter. This may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter.

One person can hold both of the roles below. In general, the Red Cross doesn't do feeding at emergency shelters. They are just evacuation sites. However, if we have a large-scale disaster like a hurricane that displaces people for weeks/months, we would do feeding and would need community support.

Our current shelters need to be reevaluated every two years, and we also would like to identify new locations for shelters across the islands (Maui, Molokai, Lanai). While this work is done sporadically, it's crucial to our mission.

Feeding Surveyor: As a Feeding Surveyor, you'll identify food sources to provide meals for shelters. You'll go out into the community and connect with business owners (restaurants, caterers, Private Chefs) and work with them to determine:

Sheltering Surveyor: Similar to the above role, you'll go out in the community and either do a survey for a new location, or you'll reevaluate our current shelters to determine if anything has changed.

Disaster Mental Health Responders- Respond virtually and in-person to local disasters. You may work in a shelter, or on a Disaster Action Team as well as supporting those operations virtually. There are options for deployment in this role as well, but it is not required. If you deploy, you'll need to be available for 2 weeks at a time.

Position is available to: 

A Disaster Assessment Volunteer responds after a disaster, assesses damage by collecting and recording information on the effects of the disaster and observing conditions and degrees of damage. The information that is collected is then used to provide funding to those that need it for repairs or moving costs.

Do you like working with school children? The Sugar Museum's beloved education program teaches students about sugar history and plantation life. We are seeking volunteer tour guides who lead students through the museum using a question and answer style of exploration, and providing a welcoming environment.

You will join a pool of other docents who are called upon when a school makes a reservation at the museum. You decide when you volunteer! Shifts are weekdays 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

The Sugar Museum is looking for friendly people to greet visitors and help in our gift shop for a couple of hours a week. We welcome students and Scouts who need service hours.  

Duties at the front desk and gift shop involve checking in visitors, ringing up sales, stocking shelves, pricing merchandise, and "busy work" when needed, such as folding brochures or keeping the lobby neat and tidy. You'll spend a little bit of time at both desks, so there is plenty of variety. It's easy and fun!

Supporting museum education can be "Sew Amazing!" 

The Sugar Museum needs a stitching squad to make lots of empty beanbag shells for its ongoing Education Program. The beanbags are a very important part of hands on, interactive student learning during field trips. This is a great activity for groups, students, Scouts, clubs, visitors, and families. We provide fabric, instructions and pattern. You can also use your own fabric scraps and sew by hand or machine.

In Honolua, we are restoring an old pineapple field to native Hawaiian forest and we invite you to help. Get outside, get your hands dirty, and join us for a fun day.

We meet at the white bridge in Honolua. We start with a short 20 minute hike uphill to the reforestation area. Transportation up the hill is available if needed.

See, touch, and learn about native Hawaiian plants and understand how they help capture the water we use every day.

Then, you’ll become part of our restoration efforts by planting Koa and ‘A‘ali‘i trees, removing invasive weeds, and collecting seeds.

Please bring a water bottle, sun protection, and joy in your heart.

Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is known for its native Hawaiian Stilt and Coot nesting habitat. But there are areas of the refuge unseen by the public eye that are being restored to a Hawaiian dryland forest ecosystem, one of the most rare systems in the world. Our objective is to plant species that were once found in this area and to replace the previously establish, and invasive, Kiawe forests. The area was previously burned in 2019 by a brush fire that tore across the valley towards Kihei, narrowly missing our visitor center. The fire was a blessing in disguise as it gave us the opportunity to remove the Kiawe, replant native species, and reintroduce an almost extinct ecosystem. Working conditions are in hot and buggy areas of the Refuge with minimal shade. Come join us in this unique opportunity! 

Important Gear:

The area is slightly rugged as we are required to walk over mulched Kiawe. The fields of this mulch often times still have the long thorns of the Kiawe tree still in them and can cause harm if not properly equipped.

Maui Friends of the Library always needs help in our used bookstores! The stores are located at three different locations: Queen Ka'ahumanu Center in Kahului; on Lipoa Street in Kihei; and in Pu'unene (past the old sugar mill and behind the school administration building.)

Volunteers may choose their duties.  These may include the following:

We are an all-volunteer organization founded to promote and assist Maui libraries. Our greatest fundraising efforts are based on the operation of these used bookstores. We take donations of pre-loved books, CDs, and DVDs and sell them at reasonable prices -- with all proceeds going to the needs of our Maui County libraries! It's a win-win: great prices on media for the community, and much-needed funding for each library branch in Maui County, including Moloka'i and Lana'i. 
The funds we provide for our Maui libraries will be ESPECIALLY needed this year, as libraries and museums face deep funding cuts from federal sources!!

Are you a high schooler who would like to earn community service hours while making a difference in a child’s life? Do you enjoy talking story and playing games? If so, then you could be on your way to becoming a Mentor!

Mentors from Baldwin High, Maui High, Lahainaluna, and Kihei Charter are needed for our After-school Mentoring Programs! We are seeking high school students to mentor our elementary students for the 2025-2026 school year.  A mentor's role is to build a positive friendship with their youth just by having fun!  No previous experience necessary.  

Mentors meet with their Youth for 1 hour, once a week after school.  This program is scheduled for Mondays from 3:00- 4:00 PM at our Mentor Center in Wailuku (200 Waimuluhia Lane, Wailuku), Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30 PM at Princess Nahi'ena'ena (Lahaina), and Mondays from 3:00- 4:00 PM at Kaiaulu O Halele'a (Kihei).  

Future Mentors need to fill out an application, complete an in-person interview, and provide references.  Group training will be available.

This information is for supporting our patients directly at home, in our Hale and in local care facilities. If you are interested in helping out in other ways, you can call our volunteer coordinator at 244-5555 or apply on this site.

People often ask about being a Hospice Maui Volunteer visiting patients in their homes, at our Hospice Hale and at Hale Makua, Roselani Place, Kula Hospital, Kalama Heights and in private foster care.  Our Patient Visit Volunteers provide compassionate companionship to patients, and often are able to give family members a much needed break.  Volunteers may sit with patients to talk story, listen to music, watch TV, or just be present for the patient while the family is on an errand. Some Volunteers also play music, offer light massage or Reiki, help with household errands, do Food Bank Shops, and many other things that would support the patient and family. 

Caring for our patients is a sacred trust and, simply due to nature of being with people at the end of life, difficult situation or emotions may come up when helping out in this beautiful way.  Hospice Maui offers an extensive Compassionate Care of the Dying Volunteer Training each year to prepare volunteers for the joys and challenges of being a Hospice Maui Volunteer. If this is your interest, please let us know and we will contact you about the training and get you signed up for our waiting list.  

Volunteer cat colony feeders and kitten fosters needed around Lahaina and Honokowai. Prefer full-time or part-time residents of Maui as this opportunity requires training and ongoing support. Takes about 15-30 minutes per feeding and we can provide all food, supplies & instructions. Even 15 minutes a week will help make a big difference.

Mālama Māla Help your community farm grow! Grow Some Good and Maui Family YMCA host Mālama Māla, a farm workshop and work day, every second Tuesday from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Volunteers are welcome to join our farm crew in expanding Nā Māla Kaiāulu.

Activities center around agroforestry and include planting, harvest, soil health, pest control, composting, and more.

Participate in Pacific Whale Foundation’s marine debris citizen science research. Select a beach of your choosing to clean up and fill out a data sheet recording what debris items are present. This data allows our researchers to expand their data set and analyze the trends and patterns of debris on Maui’s beaches and shores. The information is used to develop educational campaigns and for policy development.

Pick up your supplies (gloves, recycled bag, datasheet) at Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Stores, or at participating partners, including Maui Brewing Company Kihei, Mahalo Ale Works, Whole Foods, IHOP. Learn more about the Coastal Marine Debris Monitoring Program. 

If you don't need a cleanup kit you can simply fill out the form online. 

Do you enjoy sorting, packing, and stocking? We need volunteers to join our dedicated crew that keeps our Care Van full of the necessities that are distributed to the unhoused. Multiple different low impact tasks in an air conditioned room! 2 hours only! This job is vital to our success, we empty our outreach van 3 times a week. Please plan on at least 4 shifts over the period of a month, the training involved does not lend itself to drop ins.

Volunteer with the Pacific Whale Foundation Education team for a variety of our programs. We are looking for volunteers for our outreach events, Ocean Camp field trips and more. These events can vary from sharing about our programs at a community events, to chaperoning a school field trip to assisting with our Ocean Camp program. We would love to have you join us in our mission to teach the keiki of Maui about the amazing wonders of the ocean and the natural environment.

The Maui Pig Sanctuary is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to coordinate and support our team of compassionate volunteers. This role is essential in helping us provide a lifetime of love and care to over 90 rescued pigs at two locations.

Volunteers Coordinator - Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator will support the smooth operation of What Makes You Feel Beautiful by overseeing the recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of volunteers. The coordinator will ensure volunteers feel supported and motivated in their roles and help create a positive, fulfilling experience for all involved.

Time Commitment
Approximately 3 to 4 hours per week. and twice a month on Friday evenings

Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding:

Assist in recruiting new volunteers through online platforms, word-of-mouth, and community outreach.
Guide potential volunteers through the application process.

Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, answering questions and providing support.
Organize monthly check-ins with volunteers to gather feedback and address any concerns.

Deliver meals to our homebound clients.

Hale Kau Kau delivers through the assistance of our volunteer drivers 75 - 105 meals each afternoon to our Home Bound residents of South Maui. The meal consists of a hot entrée, starch, salad, vegetable, fruit, dessert, and bread.  Each meal is designed to provide approximately 1500 calories and address general nutritional needs.

Meal pick-up is at Hale Kau Kau at St. Theresa Church at 4:00 p.m. and delivery is in the South Maui area.

We are in the process of finalizing a west side exchange in Lahaina! But we need 1-2 people who live that side to help us with getting the word out, doing small things between events, and helping us best connect to the west side community. This would mean attending and volunteering at monthly event, plus a few hours each month helping with deliveries or speaking to to local schools, non profits. 

Manage our organization's financial resources, including cash flow, investments, and budgets. They also ensure that the organization complies with financial regulations. This will be helping the director who will do much of the daily input. 

Every second Saturday we invite local families to bring what they can, take what they need. Volunteers are needed to help with sorting donations, setting up the night before, and preparing to make sure Saturday goes well. This is also a chance to clean up storage, pull items for partner providers and other odd jobs. Snacks are served. 9am-12noon & 3pm-9pm.

Boots on the ground! Join an experienced team consisting of a Run Leader and Run Rider and see what mobile distribution is all about! This is a great way to see if consistent volunteering is right for you. Ride along as our Mobile Outreach Van visits the unhoused in South, Central, or West Maui. Distribute food and basic necessities to those who need them the most, with love, compassion and dignity. Consider giving a hand to the people on Maui who are the most vulnerable, it will touch your heart.

Make a huge difference in so many lives by helping prepare meals for those in need! Meals are prepared for our homebound clients and also served through our kitchen window. Other activities include food preparation and clean up.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui's Community-Based Program matches a Mentor (adult) with a Youth (aged 6-16) based on geographic location, common interests, and likelihood of developing a friendship.

Our Mentors always tell us that they feel they get more out of volunteering than they contribute. Some benefits of being a mentor include gaining a personal wing person who provides professional support to help you along your mentoring journey, complimentary passes to do things around Maui with your youth, and the ability to build a life-long friendship. Many Maui youth, especially boys, yearn to connect and wait for a role model. 

Today's youth face various challenges, and being matched with a Mentor can help them navigate these challenges and reach their full potential.  Most youth in our program come from single-parent homes and can benefit from having a good role model in their lives. Mentors allow youth to express themselves and enjoy being a kid.

Mentor/Volunteer Commitment:

·         At least a one-year relationship with the youth.

·         Meet 2-3 times per month with the youth. This can be anything from teaching a new skill, doing arts & crafts together, or just talking stories and going on a walk.  You get to determine the date and time and coordinate this with the parent/guardian.

We are looking for green-fingered helpers to assist with keeping the grounds around the Hui in great condition. You will be helping with day-to-day garden maintenance work, primarily weeding, edging and deadheading and picking up refuse and litter from grounds as needed. There are many disabled fire survivors that are moving back to Lahaina or moving to another living situation after being displaced for over a year. Some of them don't have the ability to carry, pack or even move their personal belongings.  We are looking for strong, compassionate full of Aloha individuals to kokua with physical labor and transporting the belongings to their new homes.

Community outreach board members can involve fundraising, events, advocacy, and collaboration with community groups. You can also use their networks to connect with the community and find new volunteers. We are looking for those who have passion for both reducing waste and supporting local families.

We need many loving hands to help pick our biodynamic cotton on the farm! We also need help ginning the cotton. A cotton gin? Yes! We do have a cotton gin! We make farm-enhanced products like pillows, seatbelt covers, and use the cotton to decorate cards. We also make our own paper by mixing old jeans, our cotton, freshly picked flowers, and put them all into the blender and lay it out as freshly made paper that we'll dry for gift-wrapping and card making. So bring your old jeans and denims, and we'll put them to use!

We need help removing the invasive plants on a regular basis. Maintaining an organic farm with natural support requires a lot of manual work to constantly remove the invasive plants that are being blown in by the wind and dropped in by the birds. "Laulima" is the Hawaiian word which means 'many hands/contributing.' And we are eternally grateful to the many volunteers who have made our work lighter through laulima.

One needs to wear good strong shoes. We provide gloves. Bring your hat and sunscreen. We'll provide hand picks and larger picks, a sawzall, a ho'o, and other tools. We will provide refreshments, as well (something to eat and drink). 

Maui Visitors will have the opportunity to join The Sewing Hui in sewing for the Maui community, join us for lunch, and talk story with the residents that call the island of Maui home. It will be a chance for visitors to connect to the Maui community through giving back, creating, and enjoying a meal together with residents. Our hope is that we are able to create more of a bridge between Maui residents and visitors. Maui residents will be able to share more insight into the needs of the community and the current projects The Sewing Hui is working on. In addition, it will be a chance for visitors and residents to exchange, share, and learn from each other's experiences. Lunches are occasionally donated to our group by local restaurants, individuals, and organizations. Please check in if lunch will be provided during your volunteer session or if you should bring your own lunch. Tea and treats will be provided in the afternoon session.

Be a part of helping local families get needed essentials while also helping reduce waste. Every month we invite local families to bring what they can, take what they need. Volunteers are invited to be a part of the community by helping with sorting donations, families shopping, be a warm breath of Aloha at the welcome table, organizing the books/games area, organizing toy area and more. Come for an hour, or two or more. Kids are welcome if watched by parents, we do not offer childcare.  Beverages and snacks are served.

The goal of interpretation is to help visitors extract understanding and appreciation from their Visitor Center and Keālia Pond NWR experience. Visitor Center docents assist staff in working toward this goal by increasing public awareness and understanding of the native Hawaiian animal, bird, plant and wetland resources at Keālia Pond NWR.

ANIMAL CAREGIVER VOLUNTEERS

Position requires: regular (once per week) attendance, negative TB test, completion of application, reliable transportation, permanent residency on Maui, a one-year commitment, experience caring for animals preferable

Activities include preparing food and enrichment, cleaning and maintenance, keeping records, office duties, pruning, groundskeeping, sewing, and general support.  This position is available for those that are unable to make a one-year commitment, please let us know if you have any special skills that you wish to contribute!

GROUNDSKEEPER and/or HANDYPERSON

We need help clearing and maintaining the land, pruning and fertilizing the trees, tending an organic vegetable garden, caring for the monkeys' jungle enclosures, and maintaining the facility. Needed-experience in agriculture and horticulture, operating and maintaining equipment, making repairs and improvements at the facility.

Our Country Store needs a Volunteer for Wednesdays from 10 am-2 pm at La'akea Village!

It is a weekly commitment and you can commit for a month at a time (or longer). Whatever works best for you!

We have a simple digital scan system for selling our seasonal produce and items; very user-friendly and we will train you. Minimal cash handling is required.

Our produce varies greatly with the seasons but ranges from papayas, avocados, leafy greens, beets, potatoes, mangos, herbs, and non-perishable items all locally grown and sourced on Maui.

We have an on-site day program for adults with disabilities and highly encourage participants and staff to complete various skill-building tasks in the store.

Having our  Country Store open allows them to interact with the public and practice retail skills.

Open the doors, put out the produce, and enjoy interacting with the public..we will provide training.  Mahalo for your consideration to enhance the Maui community!

Every Monday from 9:am to 10:am food, pet food and clothes from the Maui Foodbank is distributed to the disadvantage at the Paia Public Parking Lot.The parking lot is located right after the Paia bypass road as you enter Paia from Kahului. We distribute every Monday unless Monday is a holiday and the FoodBank is closed. Then the distribution is moved to Tuesday that week.

Aloha---At La'akea village we need help with our beautiful herb garden! In the dry summer, we need help watering, maintaining, and occasionally harvesting herbs to sell in the Country Store.

We are a life-sharing Day Program for adults with disabilities.

We would appreciate anyone with a 'green thumb' and a love for herbs--we have Swiss chard, lemongrass, oregano, chives, sage, and rosemary that we currently sell in our Country Store.

We also dehydrate some of our herbs to sell in our Country Store.

Volunteer Overview:

Come volunteer at the Pacific Birth Collective as a Donation Delivery Driver.  Our donation center and orders are filled at the Aloha 'Aina center in Haiku.  From here, we text our Whatsapp Volunteer group (see QR code below) to schedule a driver to deliver the orders directly to fire impacted families around the island.

We only ask you deliver orders to locations that are convenient for you and when it works for your schedule. But we would love to add you to the list of our current volunteer drivers, so you can be notified when orders need to be delivered.

How our process works:

3. Delivery drivers (you), deliver the order to the family.

Help us sort and organize donations and fill orders that are going directly to the Lahaina and Maui community.  The Pacific Birth Collective (PBC) is dedicated to providing vital assistance directly to affected individuals and families.

There is not set shift, please come for as long as you are able to help!  We also need delivery drivers for the orders if you would prefer to help here.

If you love Native Hawaiian plants, you'll love the Weed & Pot Club!

This volunteer gardening group weeds in our Gardens and pots plants in our nursery facility. Come ready to work with garden attire and covered shoes. Tools, gloves, sunscreen, refreshments, and expertise provided! The group enjoys a potluck after they work, but this is optional. Weed & Pot Club members also receive many garden perks including discounted merchandise, group field trips, and free Hawaiian plants!

Families are welcome to participate! All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Help out in the Gift Shop selling items to staff and visitors.  Must be customer service orientated and be able to operate cash register and credit card machine with training.  Our Gift Shop is open Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Our goal is to have longer hours on those days and expand opening to the weekend.

Compassionate Companions, AKA No Person Dies Alone Program

Compassionate Companions

What is it?

Compassionate Companions is a program that offers companionship and support to patients who are nearing the end of life. Compassionate Companions provides a dignified death to individuals who have no family or close friends to sit with them at the end of life. At Maui Health, deaths occur each year within the hospital. Through this program, we can provide witness to a person's life and compassion at their passing.

Why is program important?

We can provide companionship to patients in the dying process who are alone, and in doing so, provide a gift of respect and dignity to another human being at the end of life.

This volunteer opportunity is an 'on call' opportunity.  If a patient's family or close friend cannot be there, or is on the way but far away, a volunteer sits with the patient.  After on-boarding as a hospital volunteer, you will go through a special training.  You will be on a list to call when we are needed at the hospital to sit with a patient who is getting ready to pass.  We can just sit quietly, hold their hand if you feel comfortable, record any last words of thoughts to give to give family members or friends who could not be there.  We have some background music options to play if desired.  The hospital Chaplin is close by if needed.

Requirement is to sit up to 4 hours, then you can continue if needed or another volunteer will be called.  You can be called day or night and can tell the volunteer coordinator any times you are not available.

This is a most rewarding experience for a volunteer, and a comforting service for a person at life's end.
