Volunteer with the Pacific Whale Foundation Education team for a variety of our programs. We are looking for volunteers for our outreach events, Ocean Camp field trips and more. These events can vary from sharing about our programs at a community events, to chaperoning a school field trip to assisting with our Ocean Camp program. The Maui Pig Sanctuary is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to coordinate and support our team of compassionate volunteers. This role is essential in helping us provide a lifetime of love and care to over 90 rescued pigs at two locations.

Volunteers Coordinator - Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator will support the smooth operation of What Makes You Feel Beautiful by overseeing the recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of volunteers. The coordinator will ensure volunteers feel supported and motivated in their roles and help create a positive, fulfilling experience for all involved.

Time Commitment
Approximately 3 to 4 hours per week. and twice a month on Friday evenings

Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding:

Assist in recruiting new volunteers through online platforms, word-of-mouth, and community outreach.
Guide potential volunteers through the application process.
Coordinate volunteer orientation and ensure all necessary onboarding materials are provided.
Volunteer Engagement and Support

Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, answering questions and providing support.
Organize monthly check-ins with volunteers to gather feedback and address any concerns.
Ensure volunteers understand their roles and feel appreciated.
Scheduling and Communication

Assist in coordinating volunteer schedules for events, workshops, and other activities.
Maintain clear communication with volunteers regarding upcoming opportunities.
Documentation and Reporting

Keep track of volunteer hours and participation for organizational reporting.
Provide regular updates to the Executive Director on volunteer activities and engagement.

Deliver meals to our homebound clients.

Hale Kau Kau delivers through the assistance of our volunteer drivers 75 - 105 meals each afternoon to our Home Bound residents of South Maui. The meal consists of a hot entrée, starch, salad, vegetable, fruit, dessert, and bread.  Each meal is designed to provide approximately 1500 calories and address general nutritional needs.

Meal pick-up is at Hale Kau Kau at St. Theresa Church at 4:00 p.m. and delivery is in the South Maui area.

We are in the process of finalizing a west side exchange in Lahaina! But we need 1-2 people who live that side to help us with getting the word out, doing small things between events, and helping us best connect to the west side community. This would mean attending and volunteering at monthly event, plus a few hours each month helping with deliveries or speaking to to local schools, non profits. 

Manage our organization's financial resources, including cash flow, investments, and budgets. They also ensure that the organization complies with financial regulations. This will be helping the director who will do much of the daily input. 

Every second Saturday we invite local families to bring what they can, take what they need. Volunteers are needed to help with sorting donations, setting up the night before, and preparing to make sure Saturday goes well. This is also a chance to clean up storage, pull items for partner providers and other odd jobs. Snacks are served. 9am-12noon & 3pm-9pm.

The Sugar Museum needs lots of empty beanbag shells for its ongoing Education Program. The beanbags are a very important part of hands on, interactive student learning during field trips. This is a great activity for groups, students, Scouts, clubs, visitors, and families. We provide fabric, instructions and pattern. Do you like gardening, or light yard work? The Sugar Museum is looking for folks who like to do a little yard work twice a month. This is a great opportunity for groups, B Corps, Scouts, visitors, and individuals.   

Some tasks are weeding, trimming, raking and sweeping. Plug into your favorite podcast or music and support your local museum.

Availability is Monday-Thursday, between the hours of 9am and 1pm.  Saturdays are available with advanced notice.

The Sugar Museum is looking for friendly folks to greet visitors and help in our gift shop for a couple of hours a week. We welcome students and Scouts who need service hours.  

Duties at the front desk and gift shop involve checking in visitors, ringing up sales, stocking shelves, pricing merchandise, and "busy work" when needed. You'll spend a little bit of time at both desks, so there is plenty of variety. It's easy and fun!

Do you like working with school children? The Sugar Museum's education program teaches students about sugar history and plantation life. We are looking for volunteer tour guides who will guide students through the museum using a question and answer style of tour, while providing a welcoming environment.

You will join a pool of other docents who are called upon when a school makes a reservation at the museum. You decide when you volunteer! Shifts are weekdays 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Keālia Pond is a wetland sanctuary, home for many native and endemic species like the endangered ae‘o (Hawaiian stilt) and ‘alae ke‘oke‘o (Hawaiian coot), providing nesting, feeding and resting habitat. Participants will be contributing to habitat restoration work, protecting and enhancing the refuge’s native plant community. Volunteers will usually work alongside refuge staff to outplant and care for native plant species and remove invasive plants.

Help us clean up Māʻalaea harbor! Bags, gloves, snacks, refreshments, and some trash grabbers will be available. Participants who help with the clean up will be entered in a raffle where they could win a PacWhale Eco-Adventures cruise and more!

We will be stationed in our Discover Classroom on the lower street level of Māʻalaea rd, next to Havens Restaurant. 

Make a huge difference in so many lives by helping prepare meals for those in need! Meals are prepared for our homebound clients and also served through our kitchen window. Other activities include food preparation and clean up.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui's Community-Based Program matches a Mentor (adult) with a Youth (aged 6-16) based on geographic location, common interests, and likelihood of developing a friendship.

Our Mentors always tell us that they feel they get more out of volunteering than they contribute. Some benefits of being a mentor include gaining a personal wing person who provides professional support to help you along your mentoring journey, complimentary passes to do things around Maui with your youth, and the ability to build a life-long friendship. Many Maui youth, especially boys, yearn to connect and wait for a role model. 

Today's youth face various challenges, and being matched with a Mentor can help them navigate these challenges and reach their full potential.  Most youth in our program come from single-parent homes and can benefit from having a good role model in their lives. Mentors allow youth to express themselves and enjoy being a kid.

Mentor/Volunteer Commitment:

·         At least a one-year relationship with the youth.

·         Meet 2-3 times per month with the youth. This can be anything from teaching a new skill, doing arts & crafts together, or just talking stories and going on a walk.  You get to determine the date and time and coordinate this with the parent/guardian.

Laundry day for the residents of Pu'uhonua O Nene Shelter in Kahului.

Resident laundry bundles are picked up by our team at the shelter and taken to Kahului Laundromat to be washed, dried and folded. We then deliver back to the shelter usually by 12:30pm.

Volunteers are asked to meet us at Kahului Laundromat at 8:30am. 

Family friendly, a total team of 3-4 people is ideal!

We are an all-volunteer organization founded to promote and assist Maui libraries. Our greatest fundraising efforts are based on the operation of these used bookstores. We take donations of pre-loved books, CDs and DVDs, and sell them at reasonable prices -- with all proceeds going to the needs of our local libraries! It's a win-win: great prices on media for the community, and much-needed funding for each library branch in Maui County. 
The funds we provide for our Maui libraries will be ESPECIALLY needed this year, as libraries and museums face deep funding cuts from federal sources!!

We are looking for green-fingered helpers to assist with keeping the grounds around the Hui in great condition. You will be helping with day-to-day garden maintenance work, primarily weeding, edging and deadheading and picking up refuse and litter from grounds as needed. We are looking for volunteers interested in preparing art kits that will be distributed to various organizations including Lanai Public Library and School, Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers in Wailuku, and Molokai Arts Center.  These kits are part of an ongoing project, but when we need help mostly depends on when we receive supplies and we may not have an immediate need!

Art Kit preparation needs vary with each project, but may require:

Attendees to this free community event have the opportunity not only to enjoy our holiday gift shop, but also to visit our ceramic studio and chat with potters in person to purchase one of a kind, locally made artwork or create artwork themselves at one of our art booths!!  

We'll need help with set up and break down, directing parking, assisting guests with art projects, and monitoring the gift shop!

There are many disabled fire survivors that are moving back to Lahaina or moving to another living situation after being displaced for over a year. Some of them don't have the ability to carry, pack or even move their personal belongings.  We are looking for strong, compassionate full of Aloha individuals to kokua with physical labor and transporting the belongings to their new homes.

Community outreach board members can involve fundraising, events, advocacy, and collaboration with community groups. You can also use their networks to connect with the community and find new volunteers. We are looking for those who have passion for both reducing waste and supporting local families. 

A volunteer coordinator is responsible for recruiting, managing, and overseeing volunteers within 'Ohana Strong including tasks like assigning roles based on their skills and interests, scheduling shifts, providing training, and maintaining accurate volunteer records to ensure smooth operation of volunteer programs.

We need many loving hands to help pick our biodynamic cotton on the farm! We also need help ginning the cotton. A cotton gin? Yes! We do have a cotton gin! We make farm-enhanced products like pillows, seatbelt covers, and use the cotton to decorate cards. We also make our own paper by mixing old jeans, our cotton, freshly picked flowers, and put them all into the blender and lay it out as freshly made paper that we'll dry for gift-wrapping and card making. So bring your old jeans and denims, and we'll put them to use!

We need help removing the invasive plants on a regular basis. Maintaining an organic farm with natural support requires a lot of manual work to constantly remove the invasive plants that are being blown in by the wind and dropped in by the birds. "Laulima" is the Hawaiian word which means 'many hands/contributing.' And we are eternally grateful to the many volunteers who have made our work lighter through laulima.

One needs to wear good strong shoes. We provide gloves. Bring your hat and sunscreen. We'll provide hand picks and larger picks, a sawzall, a ho'o, and other tools. We will provide refreshments, as well (something to eat and drink). 

Maui GEMS Youth Program.

Our Summer Internship Program aims to provide girls with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting while fostering mentorship relationships with successful women in their local community. Over the course of four weeks, participants will be paired with a mentor/business owner who will guide and support them through their internship experience at a local business. This program is designed to empower and inspire young girls, equipping them with valuable skills and insights to become future leaders in their chosen fields.

As a mentor, you will play a crucial role in shaping the lives of these young girls and influencing their career paths. By sharing your expertise, knowledge, and experiences, you will have the opportunity to inspire and guide the next generation of leaders. Mentoring is not only a way to give back to the community but also a chance to contribute to the growth and success of these bright and talented girls.

We are specifically looking for accomplished and passionate women in the Maui business community who are willing to invest their time and energy into the development of these young minds. Whether you are a business owner, a professional in a leadership position, or a successful entrepreneur, your participation will make a significant impact on the lives of these aspiring girls.

It will be a chance for visitors to connect to the Maui community through giving back, creating, and enjoying a meal together with residents. Our hope is that we are able to create more of a bridge between Maui residents and visitors. Maui residents will be able to share more insight into the needs of the community and the current projects The Sewing Hui is working on. In addition, it will be a chance for visitors and residents to exchange, share, and learn from each other's experiences. Be a part of helping local families get needed essentials while also helping reduce waste. Every month we invite local families to bring what they can, take what they need. The goal of interpretation is to help visitors extract understanding and appreciation from their Visitor Center and Keālia Pond NWR experience. Are you a high schooler who would like to earn community service hours while making a difference in a child’s life? Do you enjoy talking story and playing games? If so, then you could be on your way to becoming a Mentor!

High School aged Mentors are needed for our Mentor Center Program! We are looking for High School students to mentor our Elementary Students for the 2022-2023 school year.  A Mentors role is to build a positive friendship with their Youth just by having fun!  No previous experience necessary.  

Mentors meet with their Youth for 1 hour, once a week after school.  This program is scheduled for Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00pm at our Mentor Center in Wailuku (200 Waimuluhia Lane, Wailuku). Due to COVID-19, safety precautions will continue to take place like program being held outdoors, wearing of masks while indoors, wiping down of surfaces before and after program, frequent hand washing, and all Mentors and Youth will have their own set of basic art supplies. 

Future Mentors need to fill out an application, complete an in-person interview, and provide references.  Group training will be available.

ANIMAL CAREGIVER VOLUNTEERS

Activities include- preparing food and enrichment for the monkeys, cleaning, enclosure maintenance, keeping records, responsibly overseeing the health and well being of the animals.

Position requires: regular (once per week) attendance, negative TB test, completion of application, reliable transportation, permanent residency on Maui, a one-year commitment, experience caring for animals preferable

GROUNDSKEEPER and/or HANDYPERSON

We need help clearing and maintaining the land, pruning and fertilizing the trees, tending an organic vegetable garden, caring for the monkeys' jungle enclosures, and maintaining the facility. Needed-experience in agriculture and horticulture, operating and maintaining equipment, making repairs and improvements at the facility.

Our Country Store needs a Volunteer for Wednesdays from 10 am-2 pm at La'akea Village!

It is a weekly commitment and you can commit for a month at a time (or longer). Whatever works best for you!

We have a simple digital scan system for selling our seasonal produce and items; very user-friendly and we will train you. Minimal cash handling is required.

Our produce varies greatly with the seasons but ranges from papayas, avocados, leafy greens, beets, potatoes, mangos, herbs, and non-perishable items all locally grown and sourced on Maui.

We have an on-site day program for adults with disabilities and highly encourage participants and staff to complete various skill-building tasks in the store.

Having our  Country Store open allows them to interact with the public and practice retail skills.

Every Monday from 9:am to 10:am food, pet food and clothes from the Maui Foodbank is distributed to the disadvantage at the Paia Public Parking Lot.The parking lot is located right after the Paia bypass road as you enter Paia from Kahului. We distribute every Monday unless Monday is a holiday and the FoodBank is closed. Then the distribution is moved to Tuesday that week.

Aloha---At La'akea village we need help with our beautiful herb garden! In the dry summer, we need help watering, maintaining, and occasionally harvesting herbs to sell in the Country Store.

We are a life-sharing Day Program for adults with disabilities.

We would appreciate anyone with a 'green thumb' and a love for herbs--we have Swiss chard, lemongrass, oregano, chives, sage, and rosemary that we currently sell in our Country Store.

We also dehydrate some of our herbs to sell in our Country Store.

If you love Native Hawaiian plants, you'll love the Weed & Pot Club!

This volunteer gardening group weeds in our Gardens and pots plants in our nursery facility. Come ready to work with garden attire and covered shoes. Tools, gloves, sunscreen, refreshments, and expertise provided! The group enjoys a potluck after they work, but this is optional. Weed & Pot Club members also receive many garden perks including discounted merchandise, group field trips, and free Hawaiian plants!

Families are welcome to participate! All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Help out in the Gift Shop selling items to staff and visitors.  Must be customer service orientated and be able to operate cash register and credit card machine with training.  Our Gift Shop is open Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Our goal is to have longer hours on those days and expand opening to the weekend.

Compassionate Companions, AKA No Person Dies Alone Program

Compassionate Companions

What is it?

Compassionate Companions is a program that offers companionship and support to patients who are nearing the end of life. Compassionate Companions provides a dignified death to individuals who have no family or close friends to sit with them at the end of life. At Maui Health, deaths occur each year within the hospital. Through this program, we can provide witness to a person's life and compassion at their passing.

Why is program important?

We can provide companionship to patients in the dying process who are alone, and in doing so, provide a gift of respect and dignity to another human being at the end of life.

This volunteer opportunity is an 'on call' opportunity.  If a patient's family or close friend cannot be there, or is on the way but far away, a volunteer sits with the patient.  After on-boarding as a hospital volunteer, you will go through a special training.  You will be on a list to call when we are needed at the hospital to sit with a patient who is getting ready to pass.  We can just sit quietly, hold their hand if you feel comfortable, record any last words of thoughts to give to give family members or friends who could not be there.  We have some background music options to play if desired.  The hospital Chaplin is close by if needed.

Requirement is to sit up to 4 hours, then you can continue if needed or another volunteer will be called.  You can be called day or night and can tell the volunteer coordinator any times you are not available.

This is a most rewarding experience for a volunteer, and a comforting service for a person at life's end.

Do you love animals?

Join the Maui Humane Society volunteer team! We are always looking for new volunteers to participate in a variety of tasks such as dog walking, laundry & cleaning, socializing cats, assisting the public with questions, administrative tasks, fundraising, veterinary assistance, public outreach events and community education.  There's something for everyone to do, no matter your age or ability! We also always need short term foster parents for cats, dogs and critters as well. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old, but keiki under 16 can volunteer with a parent or guardian. We are open 7 days a week and offer the flexibility to drop in anytime to volunteer between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm!  Endless cuddles, slobbery kisses and fun guaranteed!  

The steps to become a volunteer at Maui Humane Society:   

1) Visit our website and sign up for a New Volunteer Orientation Training session (2 hours)

2) Take the Dog Kennel or Cat Ohana Training [after you have the New Volunteer Training] (1 hour)

3) Show up and make a difference in the life of an animal!

We are looking for volunteers to sponsor one kūpuna in your community who do not have family on island to look out for them. 

As a sponsor, you would call them weekly and deliver their essentials (groceries, necessary household supplies, medication) every other week (kūpuna would reimburse you for expenses incurred).

One person can hold both of the roles below. In general, the Red Cross doesn't do feeding at emergency shelters. They are just evacuation sites. However, if we have a large-scale disaster like a hurricane that displaces people for weeks/months, we would do feeding and would need community support.

Our current shelters need to be reevaluated every two years, and we also would like to identify new locations for shelters across the islands (Maui, Molokai, Lanai). While this work is done sporadically, it's crucial to our mission.

Feeding Surveyor: As a Feeding Surveyor, you'll identify food sources to provide meals for shelters. You'll go out into the community and connect with business owners (restaurants, caterers, Private Chefs) and work with them to determine:

Sheltering Surveyor: Similar to the above role, you'll go out in the community and either do a survey for a new location, or you'll reevaluate our current shelters to determine if anything has changed.

Volunteer hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 8:30am - 3:30pm. Although we offer flexible hours, we do ask that volunteers serve a minimum of 4 hours, if possible.
