March 22nd is World Water Day, a day that celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.1 billion people living without access to safe water. Help us raise awareness with a cleanup at Māʻalaea harbor! Bags, gloves, snacks, refreshments and some trash grabbers will be available. Supporting museum education is "Sew Amazing!" 

The Sugar Museum needs many hands to make lots of empty beanbag shells for its ongoing Education Program. The beanbags are an important part of hands on, interactive student learning during field trips. This is a great activity for groups, students, Scouts, clubs, visitors, and families. We provide fabric, instructions and pattern. You can also use your own fabric scraps and sew by hand or machine.

Our Kūpuna’s mission is to connect Hawai’i’s kūpuna (seniors) with volunteers, resources, and essentials to ensure food security, community connection, and safe home aging. We connect low-income homebound kūpuna with volunteers who can shop and deliver groceries, medication and other necessary supplies. We also match kūpuna with phone buddies to talk stories or high school pen pals.

There are low-income, homebound kūpuna who struggle to access essential items on their own, and not all older adults in Hawaiʻi have ʻohana on island to look out for them. Our mission is to connect kūpuna with volunteer shoppers who are willing to shop for and deliver groceries, medications, and other essential supplies to the kupuna’s home every two weeks, along with weekly check-in calls to talk story.

While we started assisting kūpuna who needed to stay home to stay safe from the COVID-19 coronavirus, we have discovered that many kūpuna struggle to access their essentials (groceries, medication, household supplies) on their own regardless of the pandemic or vaccination status.

We are committed to serving these individuals, and our wonderful volunteers are too! We now require a referral for every kupuna requesting our assistance, this helps us to ensure appropriate and full care for those in need. We are helping to make these lasting connections on every island of Hawai'i, and we especially need more volunteers in rural communities and neighboring islands.  Help us fulfill our mission: to ensure food access and safe in-home aging for Hawaii's kūpuna!

Every day, seven people die in home fires, most often in homes without working smoke alarms. That’s why the American Red Cross launched our Home Fire Campaign in 2014 to save lives.

Through our home visits, we’ve installed more than 2.2 million free smoke alarms and prepared more than 2.5 million people for home fires.

You can join the American Red Cross today as a volunteer installing fire alarms in the homes of those that need them most in our communities across the island.

This opportunity is great for teams of 2-4 people. Someone will be the documenter, the safety educator, the installer and the assistant. You'll install smoke alarms in the home, help the renter or owner to draw up an evacuation plan, practice a 2-minute escape drill and perform a safety check to ensure there are no obvious fire hazards in the home.

Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is known for its native Hawaiian Stilt and Coot nesting habitat. But there are areas of the refuge unseen by the public eye that are being restored to a Hawaiian dryland forest ecosystem, one of the most rare systems in the world. Our objective is to plant species that were once found in this area and to replace the previously establish, and invasive, Kiawe forests. The area was previously burned in 2019 by a brush fire that tore across the valley towards Kihei, narrowly missing our visitor center. The fire was a blessing in disguise as it gave us the opportunity to remove the Kiawe, replant native species, and reintroduce an almost extinct ecosystem. Working conditions are in hot and buggy areas of the Refuge with minimal shade. Come join us in this unique opportunity! 

Important Gear:

The area is slightly rugged as we are required to walk over mulched Kiawe. The fields of this mulch often times still have the long thorns of the Kiawe tree still in them and can cause harm if not properly equipped.

Maui Friends of the Library always needs help in our used bookstores! The stores are located at three different locations: Queen Ka'ahumanu Center in Kahului; on Lipoa Street in Kihei; and in Pu'unene (past the old sugar mill and behind the school administration building.)

We are an all-volunteer organization founded to promote and assist Maui libraries. Our greatest fundraising efforts are based on the operation of these used bookstores. We take donations of pre-loved books, CDs, and DVDs and sell them at reasonable prices -- with all proceeds going to the needs of our Maui County libraries! It's a win-win: great prices on media for the community, and much-needed funding for each library branch in Maui County, including Moloka'i and Lana'i. 
The funds we provide for our Maui libraries will be ESPECIALLY needed this year, as libraries and museums face deep funding cuts from federal sources!!

Participate in Pacific Whale Foundation’s marine debris citizen science research. Select a beach of your choosing to clean up and fill out a data sheet recording what debris items are present. This data allows our researchers to expand their data set and analyze the trends and patterns of debris on Maui’s beaches and shores. The information is used to develop educational campaigns and for policy development.

Pick up your supplies (gloves, recycled bag, datasheet) at Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Stores, or at participating partners, including Maui Brewing Company Kihei, Mahalo Ale Works, Whole Foods, IHOP. Learn more about the Coastal Marine Debris Monitoring Program.

Volunteers Coordinator - Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator will support the smooth operation of What Makes You Feel Beautiful by overseeing the recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of volunteers. The coordinator will ensure volunteers feel supported and motivated in their roles and help create a positive, fulfilling experience for all involved.

Time Commitment
Approximately 3 to 4 hours per week. and twice a month on Friday evenings

Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding:

Assist in recruiting new volunteers through online platforms, word-of-mouth, and community outreach.
Guide potential volunteers through the application process.
Coordinate volunteer orientation and ensure all necessary onboarding materials are provided.
Volunteer Engagement and Support

Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, answering questions and providing support.
Organize monthly check-ins with volunteers to gather feedback and address any concerns.
Ensure volunteers understand their roles and feel appreciated.
Scheduling and Communication

Assist in coordinating volunteer schedules for events, workshops, and other activities.
Maintain clear communication with volunteers regarding upcoming opportunities.
Documentation and Reporting

A passion for supporting the mission of What Makes You Feel Beautiful

Manage our organization's financial resources, including cash flow, investments, and budgets. They also ensure that the organization complies with financial regulations. This will be helping the director who will do much of the daily input. 

Every second Saturday we invite local families to bring what they can, take what they need. Volunteers are needed to help with sorting donations, setting up the night before, and preparing to make sure Saturday goes well. This is also a chance to clean up storage, pull items for partner providers and other odd jobs. Snacks are served. 9am-12noon & 3pm-9pm.

We are looking for green-fingered helpers to assist with keeping the grounds around the Hui in great condition. You will be helping with day-to-day garden maintenance work, primarily weeding, edging and deadheading and picking up refuse and litter from grounds as needed. You will help maintain the grounds so that all areas are presentable to visitors and students.

There are many disabled fire survivors that are moving back to Lahaina or moving to another living situation after being displaced for over a year. Some of them don't have the ability to carry, pack or even move their personal belongings.  We are looking for strong, compassionate full of Aloha individuals to kokua with physical labor and transporting the belongings to their new homes.

Community outreach board members can involve fundraising, events, advocacy, and collaboration with community groups. You can also use their networks to connect with the community and find new volunteers. We are looking for those who have passion for both reducing waste and supporting local families. 

A volunteer coordinator is responsible for recruiting, managing, and overseeing volunteers within 'Ohana Strong including tasks like assigning roles based on their skills and interests, scheduling shifts, providing training, and maintaining accurate volunteer records to ensure smooth operation of volunteer programs.

Please join us at Ka'ehu for our 4th Sunday of every month cleanup of this beautiful bay!  We work together to pick up marine debris that's continuously washing ashore, from all around the Pacific Ocean and locally.  Then we weigh, sort and count it all.  This information gets added to our ongoing database since 2012, when we first began these regular cleanups at Ka'ehu.

It's a very rewarding and educational experience (with good karma and outdoor exercise)!

We need many loving hands to help pick our biodynamic cotton on the farm! We also need help ginning the cotton. A cotton gin? Yes! We do have a cotton gin! We make farm-enhanced products like pillows, seatbelt covers, and use the cotton to decorate cards. We also make our own paper by mixing old jeans, our cotton, freshly picked flowers, and put them all into the blender and lay it out as freshly made paper that we'll dry for gift-wrapping and card making. So bring your old jeans and denims, and we'll put them to use!

We need help removing the invasive plants on a regular basis. Maintaining an organic farm with natural support requires a lot of manual work to constantly remove the invasive plants that are being blown in by the wind and dropped in by the birds. "Laulima" is the Hawaiian word which means 'many hands/contributing.' And we are eternally grateful to the many volunteers who have made our work lighter through laulima.

One needs to wear good strong shoes. We provide gloves. Bring your hat and sunscreen. We'll provide hand picks and larger picks, a sawzall, a ho'o, and other tools. We will provide refreshments, as well (something to eat and drink). 

Maui Visitors will have the opportunity to join The Sewing Hui in sewing for the Maui community, join us for lunch, and talk story with the residents that call the island of Maui home. It will be a chance for visitors to connect to the Maui community through giving back, creating, and enjoying a meal together with residents. Our hope is that we are able to create more of a bridge between Maui residents and visitors. Maui residents will be able to share more insight into the needs of the community and the current projects The Sewing Hui is working on. In addition, it will be a chance for visitors and residents to exchange, share, and learn from each other's experiences. Be a part of helping local families get needed essentials while also helping reduce waste. Every month we invite local families to bring what they can, take what they need. Volunteers are invited to be a part of the community by helping with sorting donations, families shopping, be a warm breath of Aloha at the welcome table, organizing the books/games area, organizing toy area and more. Come for an hour, or two or more. Kids are welcome if watched by parents, we do not offer childcare.  Beverages and snacks are served.

The goal of interpretation is to help visitors extract understanding and appreciation from their Visitor Center and Keālia Pond NWR experience. We have a simple digital scan system for selling our seasonal produce and items; very user-friendly and we will train you. Minimal cash handling is required.

Our produce varies greatly with the seasons but ranges from papayas, avocados, leafy greens, beets, potatoes, mangos, herbs, and non-perishable items all locally grown and sourced on Maui.

We have an on-site day program for adults with disabilities and highly encourage participants and staff to complete various skill-building tasks in the store.

Having our  Country Store open allows them to interact with the public and practice retail skills.

Open the doors, put out the produce, and enjoy interacting with the public..we will provide training.  Mahalo for your consideration to enhance the Maui community!

Aloha---At La'akea village we need help with our beautiful herb garden! In the dry summer, we need help watering, maintaining, and occasionally harvesting herbs to sell in the Country Store.

We are a life-sharing Day Program for adults with disabilities.

We would appreciate anyone with a 'green thumb' and a love for herbs--we have Swiss chard, lemongrass, oregano, chives, sage, and rosemary that we currently sell in our Country Store.

Are you looking to do something positive during these tough times? We need volunteers to help us provide a little bit of dignity and kindness to our unsheltered community via our mobile hygiene trailer.

Maui Rescue Mission is a mobile resource center for those in our community who are struggling with homelessness. We provide free laundry service, private hot showers, hygiene and first aid items, clothing, connections to other resources such as food, shelter, medical insurance and medical appointments, detox and rehab, ID replacement, etc.

**This is currently a pared-back outreach. Only offering laundry services for the time being.**

This volunteer gardening group weeds in our Gardens and pots plants in our nursery facility. Come ready to work with garden attire and covered shoes. Tools, gloves, sunscreen, refreshments, and expertise provided! The group enjoys a potluck after they work, but this is optional. Weed & Pot Club members also receive many garden perks including discounted merchandise, group field trips, and free Hawaiian plants!

Families are welcome to participate! All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Help out in the Gift Shop selling items to staff and visitors.  Must be customer service orientated and be able to operate cash register and credit card machine with training.  Our Gift Shop is open Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Our goal is to have longer hours on those days and expand opening to the weekend.

Join the Maui Humane Society volunteer team! We are always looking for new volunteers to participate in a variety of tasks such as dog walking, laundry & cleaning, socializing cats, assisting the public with questions, administrative tasks, fundraising, veterinary assistance, public outreach events and community education.  There's something for everyone to do, no matter your age or ability! We also always need short term foster parents for cats, dogs and critters as well. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old, but keiki under 16 can volunteer with a parent or guardian. We are open 7 days a week and offer the flexibility to drop in anytime to volunteer between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm!  Endless cuddles, slobbery kisses and fun guaranteed!

There are a lot of opportunities at Nā Keiki O Emalia. Become a group facilitator for in-person peer support groups to provide grieving children, teens and families a safe space to open up, share, and support one another through grief. We provide training. No previous experience required.

Participate in fun activities, art projects, story sharing and grief education. Parents meet in a separate small group. There are groups forming throughout Maui county including Hana, Lahaina, Upcountry, Lana’i and Moloka’i in schools and community centers as well as drop-ins at our Cameron Center location in Wailuku.  Join our group of compassionate volunteers.

East Maui Animal Refuge, also known as the Bo Boo Zoo, is looking for weekly and/or monthly volunteers for a 3-5 hour minimum shift. Training is essential and required. When you volunteer with East Maui Animal Refuge you will make a difference in the lives, health, happiness and comfort of rescued animals. We need volunteers who can do the heavy lifting and dirty work (cleaning litter boxes, sweeping and mopping and so much more) as well as volunteers who can help with the lighter tasks (laundry, changing food and water, cleaning dishes).

You will be making a difference not only to the animals that take shelter here, but to your overall community. You will develop relationships with our animals, our staff and the larger community of our small island of Maui. 

Commitment 

Volunteers are an essential part of our daily operations and we rely on each other as much as the animals rely on us. Our animals depend on our volunteers every day for food, water, care and affection. Our volunteers must be able to commit to a regular schedule and time commitment. When you commit to a volunteer position with EMAR, both the animals and our current team of volunteers depend on you. You become a valuable member of our team and play an important role in the success of our mission. Please do not make a commitment that you may be unable to fulfill, or take on responsibilities for which you feel unqualified.

Basic Responsibilities

Provide fresh food, water and linens. Sweep & mop floors. Clean & refresh litter boxes. Kennel cleaning. Laundry. Clean countertops, walls, shelves.

Love and compassion for animals. Minimum 16 years old. Must be physically fit and able to lift at least 15lbs. Must be responsible, reliable, committed and diligent.

Participate Monthly

The Adopt A Beach program from PWF is an opportunity for residents of Maui County to help cleanup a beach of their choosing and contribute valuable data to the Coastal Marine Debris Monitoring Program Database. 

Volunteers choose any beach in Maui County and are provided a reusable beach cleanup kit including a large vinyl bag, reusable, washable gloves, laminated data sheet and a sharpie marker. Every month volunteers cleanup their beach and submit a picture of their data sheet to the Conservation program at PWF. 

Incentives include discounts at the PWF Ocean Store and after one year of monthly cleanups a free PacWhale Ecotour.

Cat Cafe Maui is a fun and inviting space for cats and humans, where visitors can come to play, relax and rejuvenate and maybe fall in love with their next cat. Cat Cafe Maui is a collaboration with Maui Cat Rescue, an all-volunteer, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, and all the cats at the cafe are adoptable through a partnership with the Maui Humane Society. We are looking for volunteers to greet and welcome guests, care for our community of 15 or so cats (changing all the time), and assist with adoptions so the cats can find a forever home. 

Cat Cafe Maui is located at the Queen Kaahumanu Center, and is designed as a fun and inviting space for cats and humans, where visitors can come to play, relax and rejuvenate and maybe fall in love with their next cat. Fully accessible, with plenty of unique gifts and weekly special events, Cat Cafe Maui is a collaboration with Maui Cat Rescue, an all-volunteer, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, and all the cats at the cafe are adoptable through a partnership with the Maui Humane Society. We need volunteers to greet and welcome guests, help care for the cats, and help our cats find forever homes.

Maui Civil Air Patrol is looking for new members who are interested in helping our county in search and rescue, emergency services, communications, aerospace education, Air Force Missions, and more!

Search and Rescue

We are tasked with the search and rescue of lost aviators and sailors through our training and ability to find emergency locator devices.  We provide the training for pilots, observers, air teams, communications teams and ground teams to make us an effective force multiplier in search and rescue operations.

Emergency Services

We are on called upon to help during major disasters like hurricanes, tsunamis, and fires.  We train air crews and photographers to help our partners including MEMA, HIEMA, and FEMA with aerial photography for disaster assessment.  In addition, we are on call for Tsunami warnings to reach our goal of having an airplane in the air within 2 hours of an alert to warn people off of the coastal areas of Maui.

Communications

We are in need volunteers to help operate and maintain our vital communications links including VHF local radio communications, and HF Long-Distance communications in case of catastrophe.

Aerospace Education

We are looking for educators and Aerospace Education enthusiasts to spread Aerospace Education throughout our community and schools.  We have special programs for educators including free STEM kits and TOP orientation flights for teachers to bring back the joy of aviation to their schools.  Civil Air Patrol receives funding from Congress and the Air Force to develop Aerospace Education and STEM programs for students K-12.

For pilots and air crew, we also are involved in Air Force missions to help in fighter pilot interdiction training and other important Air Force roles.

The Maui County Composite of the Civil Air Patrol is looking for those interested in youth services to volunteer for our amazing organization!  We are a federally-chartered (like the Peace Corps) non-profit organization that specializes in Cadet (Youth) Programs, Emergency Services, and Aerospace Education!

Our World-class Youth program is designed for individuals aged 12-18 and teaches them our core values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence, and Volunteer service through classes and training in Leadership, Character Development, Aerospace Education, Physical Fitness, Emergency Services, and Volunteerism.  We do this through a proven system borrowed from the United States Air Force using military ranks and progressions to move youths from followers, to group leaders, and to eventually entire squadron leadership.  Our highest level of achievement meets the same standards as entry requirements into the United States Air Force Academy and can prepare young people in seeking their goals whether or not they have military ambitions.  

We also have programs to allow those young men and women interested in any field of Aerospace from pilots to engineers and even information technology (cyber) and STEM as Civil Air Patrol has several award winning curricula in those fields ranging from elementary school to it's own high school textbook through generous funding and support of the Federal Government.  It is the Civil Air Patrol's goal to develop and provide curricula to any and all educators as a free service to support the advancement of Aerospace and STEM in America's classrooms, going so far as providing millions of dollars in free STEM kits to educators every year.

For educators, we provide an AEM program that allows you to access those STEM kits and curricula at any time and we even provide a TOP (Teach Orientation Program) flight in our aircraft so that you can share the joys of flying with your students and get them more interested in Aerospace and STEM. 

In addition to all these great programs, for adult volunteers, we offer our extensive CAP University adult training program in which you can learn and train in a wide variety of disciplines including Emergency Services (FEMA training, Aircrew Training, Ground Crew Training, etc),  Communications, Leadership, Public Relations, Safety, Logistics, Operations, Finance, and many more!  This is all included as a member of our organization.  Those trained in certain disciplines can also be eligible to help our local and state government in providing needed services during, before, and after critical emergencies.

We are seeking assistance to clear our orchards of invasive species and then rescuing and nurturing the growth of existing trees. 

This opportunity may include pulling weeds, chopping down trees, clearing debris, feeding trees with compost/decomposing plant material, and more. 

Tools are provided. While experience is not required, as we will provide on-site training, if you have experience using machetes, sickles, pick-axes, chainsaws, or pole saws it is a plus. 

Malama Maui Nui receives grain bags donated from Maui Brewing Company that are then bundled and distributed to local cleanup coordinators to aid in their beach and neighborhood cleanup efforts. Volunteer support is always needed to help us bundle bags for distribution. Work is very important to our cleanups and is performed here at our baseyard, during our office hours from 8am to 3pm, Tuesday through Friday. Join us in peaceful Pu'unene.

Community members reach out to us when they want to organize a cleanup, in which we provide supplies. Instead of using traditional trash bags, we partner with a local brewery who donates their left over canvas bags so they have a second life rather than going straight to the landfill. We pick the bags up bi-monthly and need assistance at our office to bundle them together to give out for cleanups. This can be done any time within our work hours (Tuesday-Saturday 8am-3pm).

Leilani Farm Sanctuary is a beautiful 8-acre refuge for goats, donkeys, ducks, deer, pigs, chickens, rabbits, geese, tortoises, guinea pigs, cats and a cow.

Projects may include gardening, animal grooming, handyperson jobs, manure collection, window washing, cleaning rabbit pen, chain sawing, painting, carpentry, concrete work, trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, fence repair, and more.

Your help will make a meaningful difference to the animals and visitors at Leilani Farm Sanctuary.
