Leilani Farm Sanctuary

In the lush jungle of Haiku, Maui you will find Leilani Farm Sanctuary. This haven for farm animals is situated on a beautiful 8-acre refuge housing goats, donkeys, ducks, deer, pigs, chickens, rabbits, geese, tortoises, guinea pigs, cats and a cow. Volunteering takes place on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9:00AM. There are projects for people of all kinds of skill sets. Volunteers may assist with gardening, animal grooming, manure collection, window washing, cleaning the rabbit pen, chain sawing, painting, carpentry, concrete work, trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, and fence repair. Maui Humane Society

Maui residents and visitors adore volunteering at Maui Humane Society. It's location is right in the middle of Kahului and Kihei so it is super convenient for all. Resident volunteers can take dogs for walks, hang out with kittens, and feed the other critters waiting to find forever homes. Visitors will find an awesome volunteer opportunity with the Beach Buddies program where they can take a dog on a vacation from the shelter and have an adventure day. Pacific Primate Sanctuary

This nonprofit benefitting primates is a hidden gem on Maui due to its exclusivity in terms of letting folks work and volunteer at the sanctuary. Since 1984, it has maintained a federally authorized facility for threatened New World monkeys, many of whom have been donated from research laboratories and rescued from the exotic pet trade. This opportunity is not a one time deal, but meant for passionate people willing to make a real time commitment. This 704-acre natural wetland in Kihei, Maui is home to the endangered Hawaiian stilt (ae'o), Hawaiian coot ('alae ke'oke'o), indigenous black-crowned night herons ('auku'u), and one of the largest populations of migratory shorebirds in Hawaii. Volunteers with this organization ensure the safety and furthered protection of these birds by preserving their natural habitat. East Maui Animal Refuge 

East Maui Animal Refuge, fondly known also as the Boo Boo Zoo, is a no-kill animal shelter found on the on the North Shore of Maui. In operation since 1977, they take in all manner of injured or abandoned critters. Volunteering with East Maui Animal Refuge means making a difference in the health and happiness of these rescued animals. The hardworking owners of the refuge regularly need help with heavy lifting and "dirty work" such as cleaning litter boxes, sweeping and mopping as well as volunteers who can help with the lighter tasks like laundry and changing out the animal's food and water.
