Who We Are
Maui County Health Volunteers (MCHV) was launched in early 2007. MCHV is a resource under the Maui District Health Office and works closely with partner organizations and agencies to prepare for responding to public health emergencies such as disease outbreaks or pandemics. Our volunteers also support non-emergency public health initiatives such as seasonal vaccination campaigns and health education. Founded in the wake of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, the Medical Reserve Corps has more than 200,000 medical, public health and other volunteers nationally. The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to engage volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response and community resiliency. The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a community-based, civilian, volunteer program that helps build the public health infrastructure of communities nationwide. Each MRC unit is organized and trained to address a wide range of challenges from public health education to disaster response.
What We Do
During a disaster or other emergency, volunteer health care professionals are often called upon to fulfill essential roles such as providing medical evaluation and care, vaccinations or assisting with the distribution of medications. Volunteers also support preparedness activities such as community education and training.
